YouTube

YouTube is probably the one of the best sources for music ever made. Its useful for pretty much every job in the music industry. For upcoming aspiring music videographers it can be extremely resourceful. YouTube being a video streaming site, and having millions of people on it everyday, give the opportunity to network yourself and display your creativity with choregraphing a video. All it takes is the right person to see the video.

Fanbase building is also easier. When it comes to networking and advertising, YouTube is your friend. All across the globe you have people who know about famous youtubers. Whether it be music, cooking, or sports, YouTube provides a solid platform. Some people enjoy videos more than actually reading about something. Me personally I rather watch a video of an artist and their videographer than to read about them. Videos give you more of an idea to know what you’re working with. YouTube practically advertises and promotes for you. With the “cookies” method on the internet, self promoting is almost effortless. Anytime I’m on YouTube listening to music, in the section for recommended, there are always podcast, upcoming artist, and interviews for the particular genre I’m listening to.

YouTube has a downside though. What is called “Click Bait” is all over its website. Constantly you have people who make outrageous title names to get your attention before you click on the video. It can at times, be a distraction. Its also able to spread rumors and false information and boost conspiracy theories.

YouTube will continue to grow in its revenue and features. In my opinion, its almost as good as SoundCloud when it comes to marketing and promotion for an aspiring artist or videographer. I look forward to see how much more its grown in the next 5 years.

Apple Music

Even though I don’t use it, I have to say that Apple music is probably the best streaming service. Compared to other similar services like spotify, Pandora, and Soundcloud, it can just do way more. There really isn’t any competition to me.

First thing that makes apple music so great is that there aren’t any adds in it. Adds are very annoying to me and they kind of kill the vibe when you’re having a music session You could be listening to you’re favorite album, three songs in, you hear someone talking about buying Crafts Mac and Cheese. Maybe its just me that feels that way. I know people have to advertise but I just rather have no adds. And some of the services offer add free streaming but a lot of times it cost money. Apple music lets you stream non stop free of adds.

Also, I like to listen to a lot if different radio shows and podcast regarding music. Apple music has countless radio and podcast showings for all my favorite artist. And during those podcast, artist talk about a lot of upcoming music they have and collaborations. And even that is add free.

Lastly, apple music provides music for even artist who were making music before all the technology advances. I’m a big fan of all the classic legends. And Apple music doesn’t miss a beat. And if you like the song you can easily just add it to your library and listen even offline. Also you can share your playlist as well. My friends ask me for good music to listen to, and instead of telling them, I can just send my playlist to them through text and they can quickly add them to their library.

Apple Music is pretty useful and beneficial to me. It does cost ten dollars a month unless you’re student then its four dollar but its worth it either way. I’m looking forward to say what else the can do with the service.

SoundCloud…The Hate & The Love

A music distribution platform, known as SoundCloud, is used all over the world to help aspiring artist get themselves out there and get people familiar with their sound. A lot of artist that have made it recently have used it. And whether it be positively or negatively, this platform has brought them attention.

Soundcloud to me, is one of the best creations for the music industry. You don’t have to worry about paying money for promo and advertisement. Self promotion is key in using SoundCloud. And with how easy it is to access music in this century it takes no time to just send people your SoundCloud link or just drop it on their social media posts and have them look at your page and listen to your music on the SoundCloud app.

Even though SoundCloud can be very helpful with getting known and a gaining a small fan base, it comes with difficulties, some people don’t care enough to look at your links or pay any attention to you. Also because there are so many people trying to do music, there is plethora of music on SoundCloud with bigger artist and smaller artist. For click bait, people will take hit songs by big name artist and title them on their own song so people will almost have to listen to it until they realize its not the song they wanted. This tactic helps people have an open mind by making the beginning of their song interesting because you have about 5 seconds (maybe less) before they change the song.

Also, there are actually talented people on SoundCloud. But because its such a big mix of different categories like; artist, DJs, and producers, its hard to get recognized. There are a lot of hard critics about “SoundCloud” artist. For some reason people don’t take them seriously. But in a world of technology, why should we rely on just A&Rs to go out and recruit talent? There are way too many places across the globe that have aspiring musicians to just rely on a physical and verbal recruit. SoundCloud provides more help to A&Rs if you ask me. The positives outweigh the negatives by far. Everyone can win with it.

Hip Hop Today vs Early Hip Hop: The switch up

A lot of people born in the early 1990s have so much negative energy towards todays hip hop. ITs as if they want things to be the exact same with no type of change or evolvement. I like both early hip hop and todays hip hop. the artist have changed and the lyric style has changed. Artist do a lot of networking and marketing for themselves and are able to come up with good ideas and good sounding music. back during the Pac era, there was a lot of real pen to paper writing. Now, artist feel its more raw and natural to just freestyle off their head. With technology these days its easier to become noticed too. Programs like Spotify, SoundCloud, Pandora, and apple music all help artist get their music out without having to sign to record labels. people say that the music today has no meaning. Really, that’s subjective how can you tell an artist what their music means to them? I appreciate both sides from teaching and telling stories, to club hits. I absorb it all and have good vibes towards it!
