A music distribution platform, known as SoundCloud, is used all over the world to help aspiring artist get themselves out there and get people familiar with their sound. A lot of artist that have made it recently have used it. And whether it be positively or negatively, this platform has brought them attention.
Soundcloud to me, is one of the best creations for the music industry. You don’t have to worry about paying money for promo and advertisement. Self promotion is key in using SoundCloud. And with how easy it is to access music in this century it takes no time to just send people your SoundCloud link or just drop it on their social media posts and have them look at your page and listen to your music on the SoundCloud app.
Even though SoundCloud can be very helpful with getting known and a gaining a small fan base, it comes with difficulties, some people don’t care enough to look at your links or pay any attention to you. Also because there are so many people trying to do music, there is plethora of music on SoundCloud with bigger artist and smaller artist. For click bait, people will take hit songs by big name artist and title them on their own song so people will almost have to listen to it until they realize its not the song they wanted. This tactic helps people have an open mind by making the beginning of their song interesting because you have about 5 seconds (maybe less) before they change the song.
Also, there are actually talented people on SoundCloud. But because its such a big mix of different categories like; artist, DJs, and producers, its hard to get recognized. There are a lot of hard critics about “SoundCloud” artist. For some reason people don’t take them seriously. But in a world of technology, why should we rely on just A&Rs to go out and recruit talent? There are way too many places across the globe that have aspiring musicians to just rely on a physical and verbal recruit. SoundCloud provides more help to A&Rs if you ask me. The positives outweigh the negatives by far. Everyone can win with it.
